Why some small purchases feel more satisfying than much more expensive ones

A new mug I use every morning gave me more happiness than a much pricier gadget I researched for weeks. Maybe the little purchase wins because I interact with it constantly, while the gadget mostly sits in a drawer. Or maybe I simply expected less from the mug. What inexpensive thing has earned its place in your daily routine? I'm curious whether frequency of use matters more than the initial excitement.
