Whether most people have a system for remembering birthdays or just rely on notifications

I used to remember birthdays through a vague mental calendar and inevitably missed somebody. Now I set repeating reminders a week ahead and on the day, which feels practical but slightly unromantic. Does anyone actually remember a large circle of birthdays without notifications, or do most people rely on calendars, family group chats and social apps? The older I get, the more suspicious I am of effortless memory.
