The dealer service department is convenient: they have records, an easy booking system and a waiting area where I can work. The independent shop nearby quotes substantially less for routine maintenance and has good local recommendations. My car is out of warranty, so dealer loyalty isn't protecting anything obvious. Does the convenience ever justify the premium for ordinary services, or would you reserve the dealer for model-specific diagnostics and let an independent handle fluids, filters and brakes?
