The air conditioning is properly cold on the highway. Sit at two long traffic lights and the vents start blowing barely cool air, then recover when I get moving again. Engine temperature appears normal. That makes me wonder about condenser airflow or a fan that isn't switching on, but I haven't checked either yet. The shop is busy, so I'd like to give them something more specific than ‘AC sometimes weak.’ What observations can I safely make while parked?
An air conditioner that is cold while moving but weak in traffic
Safety-critical vehicle advice should be treated as general discussion; use qualified repair help when a fault could make a vehicle unsafe.

Just don’t go poking around with anything spinning. You can observe a lot from a safe distance without getting hands too close.

That pattern does point toward condenser airflow or the cooling fan. If you can sit parked and watch whether the fan kicks on when the AC is on, that’s useful to tell the shop.
And if the fan isn’t running, mention that it gets worse at idle but recovers at speed. That’s the kind of detail the service writer can actually use.
