A window that moves slowly only in cold weather

Safety-critical vehicle advice should be treated as general discussion; use qualified repair help when a fault could make a vehicle unsafe.

The driver's window moves normally in warm weather but crawls upward on cold mornings, sometimes needing a second press near the top. I hear the motor, and the glass doesn't look visibly crooked. I'm wondering whether the channels are dirty or the regulator is beginning to fail. Is there a safe cleaning and inspection step to try before the door panel comes off? I'd like to catch it before the window gets stuck open in winter.

Cold weather makes the grease in the tracks and regulator drag, so I’d start with the easy stuff. Clean the felt channels and glass edges, then use a dry silicone or similar on the channels, not oily spray.

Yeah, that’s the first move. If it still slows down only near the top after cleaning, I’d start suspecting the regulator before the motor.

I had one that sounded fine and still got lazy every winter. The channel looked clean enough, but the rubber had gone hard and was basically grabbing the glass.
