Figuring out whether burnout is about the profession or the current workplace

I've worked in this profession for years and used to enjoy solving the core problems. Lately everything feels exhausting, including work I once found interesting. I can't tell whether I'm burned out on the field itself or on the staffing and constant urgency at my present company. Before changing careers entirely, I'm considering time off and conversations with people doing similar work in healthier environments. What helped you distinguish a bad workplace from a profession you genuinely no longer wanted?
