Recovering a garden after two weeks away during erratic weather

I was away for two weeks during a stretch that alternated heavy rain and hot dry days. The garden looks confused: weeds thriving, some plants flattened and others badly wilted. I'm resisting the urge to fertilize, prune and transplant everything immediately. What would you prioritize in the first couple of days back—watering, removing damaged growth, pest checks, or simply watching which plants recover on their own?

I’d start by watering deeply only where things are actually dry, then wait a day before doing much else. A lot of plants look dramatic right after weather swings and then perk up once the root zone settles.

Pest check first for me, because stressed plants invite trouble fast. After that I’d remove anything clearly broken and leave the rest alone until you can see what recovered.

Yes, and don’t fertilize right away. A tired plant with damaged roots doesn’t need a push, it needs water and patience.
