Applying for jobs in a new city before having a local address

I'm applying for jobs in a city I intend to move to, but the move depends partly on finding work. Applications often ask for a local address, and I worry my current location makes recruiters assume relocation will be difficult. I can cover the move myself and be available for interviews remotely. Is it better to state ‘relocating to [city]’ with an honest timeframe on the resume, or explain the situation only when contacted?

I would put 'relocating to [city]' somewhere visible and keep the timeline honest. Recruiters mostly want to know whether you can actually start and whether they need to think about distance at all.

Yes, and I'd mention that interviews can be remote. It removes the weird guessing game before it starts.

The local address thing can be more of a form field than a real preference, depending on the system. If there's room for a note, I think a short relocation line is better than waiting until someone asks.

I did this when I moved last year. The applications that accepted a note were fine with it, and the ones that needed a local address were us...
