Getting out the door without a 20-minute negotiation every morning

School mornings have somehow turned into repeated bargaining over clothes, breakfast, shoes and “one more minute.”

What works best so far is making fewer decisions in the morning: clothes chosen the night before, bag by the door, and one clear time when shoes go on. It is not magically peaceful, but at least we are arguing about one thing instead of six.

Anyone found a routine that survives past the first enthusiastic week?

That’s probably why the weeknight version here survives and the big “perfect” version collapses. We can handle one step at a time, not a whole script.

We got farther by removing choices than by making better choices. If breakfast is the same three options and clothes are picked the night before, there’s less room for a morning debate club.

Mine still tries to negotiate with the bag by the door. Apparently the bag is not a person of authority.

I like the idea of the shoes having one fixed time. If that decision is already made, nobody has to invent reasons at 7:42.
