One of ours wanted to try a new after-school club, then got very quiet once it was actually time to go in.
We ended up agreeing on a small target: stay for the first part, no pressure to talk much, and we would decide about the next week afterward. That seemed better than either forcing enthusiasm or letting nerves make the decision immediately.
I still wonder how much gentle pushing is useful. Some things only become comfortable after a few tries, but I do not want every hobby to feel like a test of character.
