Handling a child who behaves well at school but melts down immediately after getting home

The teacher describes my child as calm and cooperative at school. Then they arrive home and unravel over the smallest request, as if they've used every ounce of patience during the day. I'm trying to offer food, quiet and a little connection before asking about homework or chores. Has anyone found a useful after-school decompression routine that helps without excusing genuinely hurtful behavior?
