My expenses quietly rose over the last few months: more delivery meals after long shifts, a couple of subscriptions, rides when I could have walked. No single purchase was outrageous, which is why it took me so long to notice. I want to bring spending back down without turning life into a punishment spreadsheet. I'm starting with a weekly takeout limit and reviewing recurring charges. What small change actually stuck for you after a period of lifestyle creep?

I cut one recurring expense at a time instead of trying to become a new person overnight. That kept me from doing the usual ‘I’m saving money’ sprint that lasts four days and ends in a grocery order.
Same. I also found that checking recurring charges once a month is less depressing than checking every day, which is not a high bar but still.

One thing that stuck for me was making takeout a planned thing instead of an impulse. If it has a slot in the week, I enjoy it more and stop treating delivery like a magical emergency service.
That’s the key, honestly. Unplanned spending has a way of feeling tiny until it shows up as a giant pile of tiny.
Planned spending feels less like deprivation. I still buy the coffee, just not the random snacks that seem to appear the second I’m tired.
