Getting color between phone and laptop displays to look reasonably consistent

A photo looks warm and balanced on my laptop, then strangely cool and saturated on my phone. Both screens are set to their ordinary defaults, and I edit in a reasonably lit room. I don't need print-studio precision, but it would help if skin tones didn't shift so dramatically. Before buying a calibration device, what settings should I check—display profiles, automatic color adjustments, brightness and export color space?

Check whether one screen has a warmer or cooler color temperature setting hiding in the display menu. Also make sure both devices are viewing the image in the same color space, because that mismatch can make things look wildly off.

And brightness matters more than people expect. A photo can look warmer on a dim screen and cooler on a bright one even when nothing else changed.

I’d also look for night mode or any automatic color adjustment on the phone. Mine keeps turning itself on at the worst time.

Yeah, and if you’re exporting in one space but the phone app is guessing another, that alone can make skin tones shift. I’d rule out the eas...

If you want a quick test, open the same file on both devices after rebooting them and with all auto-adjustments off. That at least tells you...
