Running in warm humid weather without comparing pace to cool-season numbers

My easy pace in cool weather is comfortable, but the same speed in warm humid air pushes my breathing and heart rate noticeably higher. I keep looking at the watch and feeling as if I'm getting slower. I know comparing those numbers directly is silly. Do you run by effort, heart rate or a deliberately slower pace during humid months? And how do you avoid turning every sticky run into a test of fitness?

I run by effort in humid weather and stop caring about the pace number. If the air feels heavy, the watch can complain on its own.

Same here. I know a run is easy when I can talk in short sentences, even if the pace looks embarrassing.

I still use pace as a rough ceiling, but only after I accept it will be slower than cool weather. Otherwise every summer run turns into a mood swing.

The heart rate thing helped me more than I expected, but only because it gave me permission to slow down early. If I wait until I'm already...

I try to think of humid runs as a different sport for a while. Same route, different conditions, not a failure.
