What do you actually do with solo-travel evenings?

Daytime alone is easy for me. I can walk, visit museums, sit in a cafe, whatever. Around 7 pm I suddenly become very aware that I am by myself.

I do not mind eating alone, but after dinner I end up wandering without much purpose or going back to the room absurdly early. I am not looking to party every night.

What kinds of evening routines make a solo trip feel pleasant rather than like sightseeing followed by waiting for bedtime?

I like finding one low-stakes thing after dinner: a neighborhood bar with no pressure to talk, a bookstore, or even just a gelato place and a bench. It gives the night a shape.

Same here. A solo trip can feel very pleasant once you stop treating the evening like a problem to solve.

I usually give the evening a plan on purpose, even if it is a small one. A nice dinner, a long walk back, then a book or a bath in the room can make the night feel chosen instead of empty.

This, but I’d also say don’t force yourself to be out late every night. Some evenings are better when you just let them be quiet.

I’m not sure there’s one right answer, honestly. Sometimes the best routine is “eat, wander for half an hour, go home before I get weird about it.”
