I abandoned a game after two hours because its opening felt slow and the controls were unfamiliar. A year later I tried again, this time without expecting it to resemble my usual favorites, and ended up loving it. Nothing in the game had changed. Have you had a second attempt transform your opinion? I'm especially interested in games where a change in mood or expectations mattered more than a patch or update.
Games abandoned the first time but appreciated on a second attempt

Yes, a lot of times. I bounced off Disco Elysium hard the first try and then came back later in a better mood for reading and slower pacing.

For me it was Dark Souls. The second time I stopped treating every death like a failure and it clicked.
Funny how often the change is in you, not the game. If you’re expecting it to grab you like your usual favorites, you can miss what it’s act...
