Games abandoned the first time but appreciated on a second attempt

I abandoned a game after two hours because its opening felt slow and the controls were unfamiliar. A year later I tried again, this time without expecting it to resemble my usual favorites, and ended up loving it. Nothing in the game had changed. Have you had a second attempt transform your opinion? I'm especially interested in games where a change in mood or expectations mattered more than a patch or update.
