When I cut back on takeout, my first homemade dinners were too small and I ended up snacking an hour later. Takeout portions had set my expectations, but a tiny salad isn't a satisfying replacement either. I'm trying substantial meals with protein, vegetables and filling carbohydrates, not simply fewer calories. What quick dinners leave you comfortably full and make ordering delivery the next night less tempting?

Beans and eggs help a lot too. A big bean-and-veg skillet with toast is cheap, fast, and actually feels like dinner.
Soup is the sneaky one for me. Not sad soup, though — lentils, potatoes, carrots, bread on the side, and suddenly you’re not thinking about...
The carb part matters more than I wanted to admit. When I skip it and just do protein with vegetables, I’m hungry again way too soon.
